Rachel Nubson Norby, 1875-1946

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Champion Funeral Home and at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church for Mrs. Rachel Norby, 71, who died at the Park Hospital in Mason City Sunday afternoon of a cerebral hemorrhage and pneumonia following a major surgery last Tuesday. The Rev. S. O. Sorlien conducted last rites and burial was in the Rock Creek cemetery.

Rachel Nubson was born in Cedar Township in Mitchell County on May 23, 1875 to Christopher and Marit Lindelien Nubson. She attended the Cedar township school and was married to Lauritz H. Norby at the Rock Creek Lutheran church. They established their home in Cedar Township in 1904, where they lived until her husband’s death in 1939. Since then she made her home with her two daughters. Mrs. Norby had not been seriously ill until a week ago.

Surviving are her daughters, Mrs. Edwin (Thelma) Jellum and Mrs. Clifford (Katherine) Larson, both of Osage. Also surviving is her brother, Nels Nubson of Carrington, North Dakota, and four sisters: Alma and Lena at home, Mrs. Carl (Martha) Field, Osage, and Mrs. Gunia Ask of Mitchell. Three grandchildren also survive her.

Preceding her in death were her husband; one son, Ronald; one brother, Alfred; and one sister, Mrs. Harold (Marie) Fosholdt.
