Maren Lund Sorlie, 1870-1968
Funeral services for a long-time resident of the Rock Creek area, Mrs. Maren Sorlie, 97, were held October 9th at Rock Creek Lutheran church. Mrs. Sorlie entered Mitchell County Memorial hospital on September 27th and died there October 7, 1968.
The Rev. Donald Berg, church pastor, was in charge of the services. C.R. Champion and Sons made arrangements and burial was in the Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery.
Maren O. Lund was born November 24, 1870, in Oslo, Norway, the daughter of Hans and Bertha Lund. There she grew to womanhood, and was employed in Oslo as a young woman. She came directly to Meroa from Norway in 1897.
Lars L. Sorlie and Maren Lund of the Meroa vicinity were united in marriage on June 10, 1902. Their home remained in that community until they retired to Osage in 1919.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church of her native land. As a member of the Rock Creek Lutheran church, she was a faithful attendant of church and Sunday school, and of the Rock Creek Lutheran Women as long as her health permitted.
Surviving are one step-daughter, Mrs. Clara Flynn of St. Louis Park, Minnesota; two daughters, Mrs. Louise Berge and Borghild Sorlie of Osage; one step-granddaughter; five grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Lars, her parents, two sisters, three brothers, three sons and one step grandchild.
