Andrew Schoger, 1852-1919

Andrew Shoger was born in Iowa County, Wisconsin, April 25, 1852. He passed away at his home in the Rock Creek community on Tuesday, January 28, 1919 at the age of 66 years, 9 months, 3 days.

In 1864, with the rest of his family, he moved from Wisconsin to Yankton, S.D. They did not remain there very long, about one year, because of the hostile attitude of Indians toward white people at that time. The family came east and settled in Mitchell County, Iowa.

In 1878, Mr. Shoger moved to North Dakota and took claim near Manvel. The following year he was united in marriage to Miss Betsy Larson, of Mitchell County and with his bride returned to North Dakota.

To this union six children were born: Mrs. John G. (Clara) Johnson, who is gone before; Mrs. Ella Eliason, of South Dakota; Mrs. Pete (Anna) Paulson, of Plymouth; Mrs. Andrew (Mathilda) Wamstad, of St. Paul; Alfred at home and Lawrence in France; also ten grandchildren survive him.

Mrs. Shoger survives her husband as does one brother, Mr. Julian Shoger of Osage.

The funeral was held from the home and the Rock Creek Lutheran church on January 30, 1919. A great number of relatives and neighbors were present. He was laid to rest in the Rock Creek cemetery.
