OBITUARY: Betty (McPherson) Hanson, 1923-1997

Betty Hanson

NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Betty Hanson, age 74, of Nora Springs, died Thursday, June 5, 1997 at her home.

Memorial services will be held on Monday at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osage, with the Rev. Roger Hoppenworth officiating. Inurnment of cremains will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery.

She was born April 7, 1923, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of James and Hattie (Mester) McPherson. She attended Detroit Schools and graduated from high school there. She was employed by Kerns Department Store in Detroit.

Betty married Arnold Hanson on July 13, 1946, in Detroit. They farmed in rural Osage until retiring in 1978 and moving to Nora Springs. Betty was an active member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Church Circle and Church Choir. She was a member of the Nora Springs Library Board.

She is survived by her husband, Arnold Hanson, of Nora Springs; a daughter, Linda Maas and her husband, Willard, of Parkston, S.D.; two sons, Donald Hanson and his wife, Jo, of Center Point, and Richard Hanson and his wife, Patricia, of Des Moines; two sisters, Dorothy Moosekian and her husband, Joseph of Marine City, Mich., and Helen Braun and her husband, Frank, of Fenton, Mich.; a brother, James McPherson and his wife, Jane, of Cheboygan, Mich.; and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers.

The Champion Funeral Home, Osage, is in charge of arrangements.
