OBITUARY: Isabella (Rice) Graves, 1843-1921

The friends and neighbors of Mrs. Isaac Graves, living six miles north of Osage, were shocked to hear of her sudden death Monday evening April 4th. She had been busy about her housework as usual, uttering no complaint about ill health or suffering. About nine o'clock in the evening she was found in the house where she had fallen and probably died of heart failure without a moment's notice. Dr. Rachman of Mitchell was called, but the flame of life had gone out.

Mrs. Graves, whose maiden name was Isabella C. Rice, was born in Cambridge, Washington county, N.Y., on July 24, 1843. At an early age she moved with her parents to Juneau, Wisconsin. After a number of years she went back east and received a good education in Cambridge academy.

In 1863 she was married to Isaac Graves, with whom she has lived and labored and fought the battle of life for more than forty years. In 1883 they moved to Iowa, and have made their home in Mitchell county since that time.

Her husband and one son, Isaac Graves, Jr., and two daughters, Mrs. Myron Cummings, and Mrs. McNamara of Rudd survive her. There are also six grand-children.

Mrs. Graves was a woman of modest retiring temperament of firm-convictions, and steadfast principles and faith. She was a lover of the church, and a friend to all who knew her. She was devoted to her home and her family, working to help them when she herself needed most help. The world needs more of such worthy mothers whose unbounded love leads them to held others even though they forget their own needs.

The funeral services were held in the M.E. church at Mitchell, Thursday. . . . [missing.]
