Fatal Accident
Sunday morning the sad news was received that Mr. A. Oldham, a farmer residing five and a half miles from here had died from the effects of a kick by a horse, Friday night. On that night after he had gone to bed, it occured to him that one of the horses had not been turned out, and he got up to do it. He went to the barn without a lantern and put his hand on the horse strangely neglecting to speak. The horse was a gentle one but, being violently scared, gave a kick which struck Oldham in the bowels. He did not realize the extent of his injury and proceded to turn the horse out and returned to his bed. Soon however, he was seized with violent pain. A physician was immediately sent for, but his injury was beyond the surgeon's skill.
Mr. Oldham came to this county some two years ago from Illinois, and was liked by all who knew him. He was a member of the Baptist church in Osage, and had been a professor of religion for over fifty years. His last message to his children was that they should lead a christian life and meet him in heaven. The funeral services took place in the Baptist church Monday afternoon, conducted by his pastor Rev. A. M. Duboe.
