Opal (Richardson) Berg [1914-1991]

Funeral services for Opal Berg, 76, of Lyle, Minnesota, who died March 28 at St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin, Minnesota, were held Monday, April 1 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lyle with the Rev. Harold Luecke officiating.

Opal Berg was born on June 30, 1914 in Lyle, Minn. to Hans and Anna Richardson. She was baptized by Rev. Elmer Moe and confirmed by Rev. O. M. Langehough and was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church her entire life. Opal attended public school and graduated as salutatorian of her class in 1932.

August 4, 1936, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Berg at the Lutheran Parsonage in Lyle by Rev. Langehough. To this union was born one daughter, Myrna Ann, who passed away at the age of two.

After their marriage, Lloyd and Opal both worked in grocery stores in Lyle. For a period of three years they lived in Minneapolis, Minn where Opal worked for Powers Department Store and Lutheran Brotherhood. After their return to Lyle they owned and operated a grocery business in Lyle and in Austin, and later farmed in the Rose Creek area.

Opal enjoyed sewing and was known as a good cook. She also enjoyed singing and sang duets with her sister, Marlys and in the church choir for many years. She was a member of Our Savior's WELCA and the Lyle Study Club.

Opal is survived by three sisters, Phyllis Wallace of San Antonio, Texas; Maryls Johnson of Lyle; Norma Hannam of St. Ansgar; two brothers, Maurice Richardson of Lyle and Lloyd Richardson of LeRoy, Minn.; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd, and infant daughter, Myrna Ann; step-brother Orwin and step-sister Hazel.

Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Mona.
