Otto George Brandau, 1899-1974

Funeral services were held Monday at Eden Presbyterian Church north of Rudd for Otto Brandau, 74, who died September 27, 1974 at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage. The Rev. John Reiners of Mason City officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Otto George Brandau was born in Floyd County on December 10, 1899 to George and Martha Kerst Brandau. He was baptized and confirmed at Eden Presbyterian Church. Mr. Brandau attended Charles City College and Cedar Valley Seminary in Osage. He was employed by the Osage National Bank and began farming near Rudd in 1919. He was married to Hazel Apel in 1921.

Mr. Brandau served as one of the original county committeemen under the Agricultural Adjustment Act, and later as a Northeast Iowa field man for the Production and Marketing Administration.

He was a member of the Rudd Consolidated School Board, officer of the Farmers Cooperative Elevator in Rudd, and trustee and elder of Eden Presbyterian Church. He retired from the farm and moved to Osage in 1960.

Mr. Brandau is survived by his wife, Hazel; two daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Bernice) Sweeney and Mrs. Elvin (Donna Jean) Toppin. Also surviving is his sister, Mrs. Gertrude Moeller and his brother, Clarence Brandau; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, his brother Florian, and his sister, Lutie Schider, preceded him in death.
