Anthony Carter, 1809-1890

DIED: At his home in Cedar township two miles south of Mitchell on June 25, 1890, Anthony Carter in his 81st year. Anthony Carter was born in Methwold, Norfolk Co., England, August 23, 1809.

He was married to his bereaved widow in 1832. They came to America in 1851 and settled in Dane county, Wisconsin. He was one of the old settlers of Mitchell county, settling here as early as 1856. Mr. Carter possessed a very rugged constitution. Though suffering much, he seemed to withstand the disease a long time, which finally terminated his life. He identified himself with the Methodist Church in Mitchell many years ago.

The funeral services were held on Thursday the 26 from the church in Mitchell. A brother of Mr. Carter, some seven years older, was in attendance, at the services, also a sister two years younger.

A large number of neighbors and friends also attended the services. Thus one by one the old settlers are passing away.
