Arloine “Arlie” J. Bartell, 78, of New Prague, died at Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague on Friday, Aug. 13, 2004.

Born to Millard and Marion (Whiteley) Smith on August 28, 1925, in Minneapolis, Arloine lived in Minneapolis and Richfield until moving to Cedar Lake 38 years ago. She attended Minneapolis South High School.

She married Kenneth Bartell on May 24, 1947, in Minneapolis. She was a homemaker and employed as a switchboard operator for Pillsbury Company. She was a member of Women’s Circle and a choir member in various Methodist churches. She was a champion speed skater in her youth, bowled for over 35 years, was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and a very active bridge player.

Arloine is survived by her husband, Kenneth; children, Sue Bartell, Minneapolis; Scott (and Florence Golod) Bartell, Minneapolis; Bradley Bartell, Superior, Wisconsin; brother, Gerald Smith, Jordan; sister, Marilyn Morey, Modesto, California; sister-in-law, Barbara Grayson, Dayton, Ohio; three gra+ndchildren, Andrew and Carolyn Strauss, Minneapolis, and William Willman, Kansas City, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, C. Ross Smith; and a brother-in-law, Robert Morey.

The funeral was held at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague on Tuesday, Aug. 17, at 10 a.m. Rev. Judy McEachran officiated.

Interment was at First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar, Iowa.

Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Bruzek Funeral Home.
