Shirley M. Hesse, 69, of Osage, died Wednesday morning, April 7, 2010, at her home in Osage.
Pastor Tim Robbins will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Shirley May Harper was born January 17, 1941, at Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Frank T. and Marguerite (Hoskins) Harper.

In 1960, she was united in marriage to Marvin Hesse at the Baptist Church in Marble Rock. Shirley and Marvin resided in Charles City for 35 years, where they owned and operated the Café Mexicana Restaurant in Charles City. Shirley also was employed as a cook at Comp Systems. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Her interests included crocheting, painting, pottery, cake decorating, flower arranging, hairstyling, camping, collecting Betty Boop, unicorns and Indian items, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Living family members include her husband, Marvin Hesse of Osage; four children, Melody (Ricardo) Flores of Charles City, Tracy Hesse of Omaha, Nebraska, Troy (Linell) Hesse of Charles City and Timothy (Melissa) Hesse of Charles City; 13 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a third expected in May; brother, Frank (Jean) Harper of Waco, Texas; sister, Sharon Kirksey of San Antonio, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harry; and three sisters, Vivian, Marguerite and Betty.
