Jean Kienast

(Died April 6, 2010)

Jean Kienast, age 81, of Osage, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at the Manly Nursing and Rehab Center in Manly.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2010, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Bruce Kaltwasser officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Jean was born June 3, 1928, in New Salem, North Dakota, the daughter of Frederick and Gladys (Bauer) Simon. Her family moved to Osage when she was a young girl. She attended Osage schools and graduated from Osage High School in 1946. On September 28, 1948, she married Arnold Kienast in Osage. They later divorced. Jean worked as a local telephone operator. She also worked as a nurse’s aide at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, retiring in 1991. Jean enjoyed quilting, gardening, birds and nature.

Jean is survived by three children, Fred (Diane) Kienast of Hudson, Lisa Wharam and special friend, Kevin Chelf of Harpers Ferry, Mark (Desiree) Kienast of Salem, New York; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Donna (Gordon) Schmarzo of Manning, Sylvia Kelly of West Des Moines; and a son-in-law, Dale Kazeck of Big Lake, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Becky Kazeck; and a granddaughter, Danielle Knight.
