FORMER PASTOR AT OSAGE DIES

Last Rites in Oregon for J. Gemaehlich, 76

OSAGE, IOWA — The Rev. J. Gemaehlich, who served as pastor of St. John's Lutheran church west of Osage and East of Grafton during 1919-1937, died Thursday afternoon at his home at Medford, Ore., having been in failing health for the past 3 years. His son, Andrew, of Mitchell left for the funeral rites. Burial was to be at Medford.

Born February 25, 1871, Hamburg, Germany, where as a young man he took all of his theological training, coming to Athol, Kansas, in 1891 to serve his first pastorate.

In 1893 he was married to Mathilda Beckmann of Kensington, Kans. The couple celebrated its golden wedding anniversary at their last pastorate at Russell, Kansas.

Survivors include his wife, nine children, Andrew, Mitchell; Simon, Dennison, Texas; Emil, Clinton, Oklahoma: John, Central Point, Oregon; Rudolph, St. Ansgar; Mrs. Ralph Lorenz, Osage; Berthold, Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Theodore Trautmann, and Mrs. Edward Rupp, both of Medford, Oregon.

Former Pastor at Osage Will Mark 50th Anniversary

OSAGE, IOWA — Rev. J. Gemaehlich, who for 12 years was pastor of the Rock Creek Lutheran church, in Mitchell county, Iowa, will observe the fiftieth year of his ministry Wednesday at Russell, Kansas, where he has had a pastorate since leaving Osage in 1927.

His daughter, Mrs. Ralph Lorenz, and her daughter, Lois; his son, Andrew Gemaehlich, and family, of Osage; another son, Rudolph Gemaehlich, and family, St. Ansgar, left Sunday to be present at the observance.

Rev. Mr. Gemaehlich commenced his ministry at Smith Center, Kansas, then for a number of years was at various pastorates in Oklahoma, and came from that state to this community.

The other children of Rev. and Mrs. Gemaehlich are: John, Bert, and Mrs. Hulda Trautmann, all of Medford, Ore.; Agnes, of Great Bend, Kansas; Simon and Amil, of Bessie, Oklahoma. All, with their families, will be present at the observance.
