Funeral services for George O. Gunderson, 84, were held Saturday, December 12, 1964 at the First Lutheran church, with the Rev. Don Comnick and Rev. Richard Ellingson officiating. Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery.
George O. Gunderson, son of John and Barbara Thorson Gunderson was born January 6, 1880 on a farm northwest of St. Ansgar. He was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Johan Olsen at the First Lutheran church of St. Ansgar of which he was a life long member.
He received his early education in rural schools in Newburg and Otranto townships and later attended the St. Ansgar Seminary. He was engaged in farming with his father and later with his brother, Knut. In 1938 he moved with his brother and family to Ventura. In 1942, he returned to Mitchell county and later purchased a home in Osage where he lived for about twelve years. For the past three years he has been cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Knut Gunderson, Clear Lake. He died at the Mercy hospital in Mason City after two days of hospitalization.
Survivors include three brothers, Knut of Clear Lake; Gilbert of Fort Macleod, Alberta, Canada; Julius of Terrace, British Columbia, Canada; two sisters, Mrs. H.L. (Ella) McCulla, Greene and Mrs. Mary Gaarder, Wheatland, Wyo.; also many nieces and nephews. His parents, two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
