Josephine Amanda Gilbertson was born October 21, 1883 on a farm near Mitchell, the daughter of Gilbert and Annie (Ask) Gilbertson.
She was baptized by the Rev. Johann Olsen and confirmed by him MaY 27, 1897. She remained a lifelong member of First Lutheran congregation.
Miss Gilbertson attended country school and following her graduation from St. Ansgar high school, completed a two year course at Memorial University at Mason City. She later attended a business school in Chicago.
She cared for her mother and father until their deaths, and also her sister, Tillie, until her death.
Miss Gilbertson was familiar to many in the St. Ansgar area as she operated a variety store for a number of years, and in later years a loom in her home.
Due to failing health she entered a nursing home November 27, 1963, and when the local Good Samaritan Center opened, became one of the first residents.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Paul (Olga) Krouse of Winterpark, Fla. and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Burial was in First Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Comnick in charge of the committal services.
