Mel Taets, 67, Dies at Osage; Rites Monday
OSAGE, IOWA — Mel Taets, 67, died Friday evening at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital. He
had been ill with cancer and had been hospitalized many times. Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Church, Osage, with burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. The Rosary will be said Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Champion Funeral Home.Born in Belgium, October 4, 1891, to Bruno and Theresa Taets, he came to this country at age 19. He was married to Ida Boerjan, in June, 1919. They lived near Plymouth then in the vicinity of St. Ansgar and had lived near Osage for many years.
Survivors are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Avery Halverson, St. Ansgar; Mrs. Jack Flint, Great Falls, Montana; two sons, Russell and George, Osage; nine grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Louise Engels, Rockford; five brothers, Rene, Riceville; Emil, Annawan, Illinois; Alois, Erie, Illinois; and Teophiel and Clement, Belgium.
