Woman who died in Evanston, to be buried in Osage; traveled much
Osage: January 17--Mrs. Oscar Jacobs and other relatives here received word that Mrs. Jacobs sister, Mrs. Frank W. Merrill, died Wednesday at the home of her niece, Mrs. Harry Cohen, at Evanston, Ill., following a sudden and brief illness from a heart attack.
Mrs. Merrill, 72, whose maiden name was Clara Tupper, was born on the old Tupper farm in East Lincoln, and attended the rural school in the neighborhood. She later came to Cedar Valley seminary, then took a course at Cornell college. For several years she taught in the grades of Osage schools. Later she acted as secretary for her uncle, A. C. Tupper, during his service as dairy commissioner at Des Moines, and later assisted him during his term as postmaster at Osage.
Her husband, Frank W. Merrill, died 11 years ago. She made her home since part of the time here with her sister, Mrs. Jacobs, and a part of the time in Chicago. She was a member of the local Congregational church, the Shakesperean club, the P.E.O. During recent years she traveled widely, visiting alaska, several trips to California, Honolulu and a world tour.
Funeral services and burial will be at Osage.
