Wayne McNutt [1916-1979]
Wayne McNutt Rites
at United Methodist Church
Here August 14Funeral Services for Wayne McNutt, 63, who died at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City August 12, 1979, were held August 14 at the McNutt farm home, Rock Township, and at the St. Ansgar United Methodist church with the Rev. Bruce Wittern officiating.
Wayne McNutt was born on a farm near Archer, Iowa, July 11, 1916, the third son of Homer and Alice McNutt. Within a very short time the family moved on to the McNutt family farm south of Sheldon. He attended the rural school close by and was graduated from Sheldon high school in 1935. During the days of his youth he was an active 4-H member, and this is where his love for cattle, especially Shorthorns, began to grow.
He married Evelyn Protextor on Easter Sunday, March 24, 1940. Two daughters were born to them. Their first daughter, Mary Jane, was born while they were living on the family farm near Sheldon. Shortly after the family moved to Lake Park, their second daughter, Marilyn, was born.
The family then moved to Greeley, Colo. where Mr. McNutt was employed, but the land was always his first love. When the opportunity came, he brought the family to Mitchell County to begin his 30 years of farming the land then owned by George and Lizzie Glassel. During these 30 years he was a 4-H leader, Farm Bureau member, township trustee, member of both the North Central Iowa Shorthorn Association and the Iowa State Shorthorn Association, and an active member of the United Methodist church here.
Mr. McNutt is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Mary Jane) Miller of Waterloo and Marilyn McNutt of St. Paul, Minn.; two grand children, Michael and Sarah Miller of Waterloo; three brothers, Millard B. McNutt of St. Ansgar; Paul E. McNutt of Iowa City, and Merle W. McNutt of Dexter, Minn.; also a wide circle of other relatives and friends.
Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery with Rev. Wittern in charge of committal services.
