1883 Halvor Share 1966

Halvor Berlienas Share, the third and youngest child and only son of Ole and Brithe Tonjum Share, was born in Wayne Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, July 26, 1883.

While an infant, he was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a lifelong member of LeRoy Lutheran Church.

When he was six years of age the family moved to the farm just west of LeRoy, where he made his home most of his life. He attended rural school, LeRoy Public School, was graduated from Southern Minnesota Normal College, Austin, and attended the School of Agriculture at the University of Minnesota. He then spent several years at home, farming in conjunction with his father.

On August 20, 1919. he was united in marriage with Mattie Olive Sorenson at the rural Betheny Lutheran Church. They lived for a while in Sioux Falls, D. D. and returned to LeRoy to operate the home farm.

He took an active interest in the affairs of the community, having served as a member of the board of trustees at LeRoy Lutheran Church, a member of the Lutheran Cemetery board, and was elected an officer of the Lutheran Cemetery board, and was elected an officer of the Lutheran Brotherhood during it's organization there. He was, for many years, a member of the rural school board, the board of township supervisors and served several terms as township assessor. He also was a member of a committee selling government bonds during World War II.

In February 1950, he retired from active farming and moved into LeRoy, where he made his home with the exception of a short time spent in Minneapolis.

Mr. Share had been in declining health for several years. In November, 1965, he entered Meadow Manor Nursing Home at Grand Meadow, where he was cared for until September 1, 1966, when he was taken to Community Memorial Hospital, Spring Valley, where he passed away that evening.

Surviving are his widow, Mattie; a daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Clayton Schroeder; three grandchildren, Kathleen, William and Mary Ann Schroeder, all of Waseca; several cousins and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Anna and Lena Share; a grandson, Michael Schroeder.

Blessed be the memory of Mr. Share.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 3, at LeRoy Lutheran Church, Reverend Marlin B. Thompson officiating. The organist, Mrs. Reginald Torrison, accompanied the soloists, Miss Janice Orke, who sang "How Great Thou Art," and Mrs. William Mallory, Austin, who sang "Behold the Host Arrayed in White."

Death is but a stepping stone,
To that eternal life,
In which there's no unhappiness
No suffering or strife.
And so our loved one is at peace,
And lives on in a place
Where there is light and gladness
And we see God Face to face.

Relatives and friends from out-of-town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Schroeder, Kathleen, William, Mary Ann, Waseca' Mrs. and Mrs. N. V.
