George Lubiens, 1840-1912

Born February 25, 1840
Died May 31, 1912

George Lubiens was born in the city of Hanover, Germany, Feb. 25, 1840, the youngest son of George Frederick and Louise Lubiens. He came to the Wisconsin prairies in the year 1849, with his parents later learning the carpenter trade at which he worked until a short time after his marriage.

He was married on March 7, 1867 to Arville Quackenbush. In 1868 he moved to Iowa and improved the farm he had previously purchased and resided thereon many years, and was successful, loved and respected by all his neighbors and friends. He then removed to Mason City, Iowa, and resided there for a time and later came to St. Ansgar, and made it his home until the time of his death, which occurred May 31, 1912.

Mr. Lubiens lived to be 72 years 3 months and 6 days old, a little more than the time allotted to mankind. He suffered from a serious sunstroke and other complications since July, 1910, and nothing that science knew of could cure him. At the time of his death he was surrounded with every comfort, his children, wife and friends.

Of his immediate family he leaves to mourn his loss, his widow, Mrs. Arvilla Lubiens, two sons Fred G. and Wilmer E. of North Dakota, and one daughter, Mrs. William Getts of Waverly, Iowa. He was a brother of Henry Lubiens and Mrs. C. A. Klienworth of St. Ansgar, E. C. Lubiens of Montana and Mrs. Augusta Engel of Sun Prairie, Wis., and Mrs. William Klienworth of Leeds, Wis. who all survive him.

George Lubiens was a good man, of kindest disposition, always ready to aid and assist his neighbors, a man who will be missed not alone by his family but by all those who knew him.

The funeral was held at the home Sunday afternoon at three o'clock conducted by Rev. Pease of Riceville.
