Ross Allen Noble
RICEVILLE, IOWA -- Ross Allen Noble, 99, passed away on Monday (Dec. 30, 1996) at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Riceville.
Lindstrom Funeral Home, Riceville, is in charge of arrangements.
Ross Noble was born Sept. 15, 1897, the third son of Joseph and Annie Haigh Noble, in rural Riceville.
He attended rural Pleasant Hill School in Mitchell County and continued his education at Riceville High School and at Evansville, Wis.
He then attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison where he joined the cross-country team and became a famous runner.
Ross joined the service and served his country overseas in World War I. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Ross married Alice Cover at York, Pa. They soon moved to the state of Michigan where they lived the remainder of their married lives.
Ross was employed by General Motors for a number of years before starting his own factory, The Ross Noble Co. in 1955. This company began as a result of several of Ross's own patented inventions.
Following his stroke, Ross entered the Iowa Veteran's Home, Marshalltown, Iowa, on Aug. 30, 1982. He resided there until his death.
Ross is survived by one sister, Merdith (Noble) Vinson.
Ross was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; five sisters, Elva, Orpha, Marian, Ruby and Pearl; and two brothers, Floyd and Merwin.
