OBITUARY: Mary Ann (Briggs) Johnson, 1844-1938

Mary Ann Briggs, eldest child of Thomas and Susan Briggs was born in Lincolnshire, England, March 1, 1844, and passed away at her home in Riceville, Feburary 15, 1938, at the age of 93 years, 11 months, and 15 days.

She came to America with her parents when six years of age and settled in Blue Island, Illinois, coming to Mitchell County a few years later.

On May 12, 1870, she was united in marriage to James B. Johnson who preceeded her in death Februrary 18, 1917. To this union 5 children were born: Clarence of Frederic, Wisconsin; Mrs. Susie Geithman, Parkers Prairie, Minnesota; Franklin, who died at the age of 3 years; Mrs. Cora Dano of Pequot, Minnesota, and Randy of Riceville. Besides her children she leaves to mourn her loss 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, also three brothers, William of Cresco; Hadley of Los Angeles, Calfornia; and Henry of Austin, Minnesota, besides a host of neighbors and friends. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church last Thursday. The Reverends F.M. Garrett and E. Bodenham officiated.
