OBITUARY: Lucy Ann (Stone) Kildee, 1844-1932

Lucy Ann Stone was a daughter of the Rev. Jesse Stone, a minister in the Methodist Episcopal church.

She was born at Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Sept. 4, 1844. In 1869 she came to Mitchell County, Iowa, to be with her sister, Mrs. Byron Leighton.

In 1870 she was married to Michael Kildee and established their home on a farm in Cedar Township. Mr. Kildee died in 1896. Mrs. Kildee continued on the farm until 1901 when she moved to her home on North Seventh St., where she lived until a month ago.

During the past month she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Katherine Mapes, on Maple Street.

Mrs. Kildee was an active member of the Methodist church. Her daily life was a living example of the finest and best in humanity and spiritual values.

She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters--Mrs. Katherine Mapes of Osage, and Mrs. Herbert Winter, of Mason City; two sons, Albert, of Osage, and Herbert of Ames; also eleven grandchildren. Three children--Mrs. Pearl Nicol, Gertrude, aged and four and Frank in infancy, preceded her death.

Mrs. Kildee was known in the church and community as a devoted Christian, a good mother, a kind neighbor and friend. She was deeply interested in her church and was an inspiration to her pastor in his calls to her home.

She kept abreast of the plans and work of the church and was a careful reader of the "Northwestern Advocate" which she had taken for years.

Her cheerfulness and devotion to Christ, keen interest in her community and her family, are outstanding traits of her character. She will be missed by a wide circle of friends. Her long and useful life challenges all of us to the simple clear faith which was the foundation of her wonderful life. God welcomed her home, for she had served Him long and well.
