#2:As announced last week another of the first settlers of St. Ansgar is gone, Mrs. K. Erickson. It was hoped she at least would live until after the celebration next June, but it was to be otherwise. She had a stroke of paralysis in August, 1925, another in May, 1927 and a third in December, which was the beginning of the end. She died at seven o'clock Tuesday evening, January 10, 1928 at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 28 days.
Kjersti Jacobs was born in Aadalen, Ringerike, Norway, July 13th, 1839. She came to America with her mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. O. Hansen Haugerud, in 1852, coming to Rock Prairie, Wisconsin. In June, 1853, the family joined the Clausen Colony and came to St. Ansgar. They bought a farm two miles southwest of St. Ansgar. This farm was her home for 50 years.
Three years after she arrived in this country, October 11, 1856, she was united in marriage to Andrew Erickson. The young couple went to house keeping on the farm of her parents. There were 12 children born to them. In October, 1886, Mr. Erickson passed away, but Mrs. Erickson, with her children, continued to live on the home farm for 17 years, when, in the fall of 1903, they came to St. Ansgar.
Of the 12 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Erickson, only two, Misses Caroline and Elvina, survive. Edward died at Oaklee, Minn., in 1926 and Bertha, Mrs. Ole Havig, died at Osage in 1925. Emma died in 1905, Pernella in 1897, Carl in 1896, Mrs. Bernstein Blakkestad in 1892, Frederick in 1890 and Mrs. Johanna G. Golberg in 1888.
There are nine grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren who survive. Of the grandchildren, one, Mrs. Peter Upsahl, is the daughter of Edward Erickson, and all the others are children of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Havig.
Funeral services were held at the First Lutheran church Friday, January 13, conducted by Rev. Olaf A. Langehough. Burial was at the Norwegian Lutheran cemetery.
