Funeral services for Otto F. Steinberg, 88, who died October 2, 1973, at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, were held October 5, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Township, with the Rev. Elmer Jacobs officiating.
Otto Wilhelm Ferdinand Steinberg was born June 18, 1885 in Newburg Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, the son of Frederick and Wilhelmina Diesterbeck Steinberg. He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran church by the Rev. G. L. Zeilinger on July 12, 1885. He was confirmed on March 26, 1899 by the Rev. J. Becker, and remmained a member of the parish all his life.
In his youth he attended the public school two miles north of the church. On May 30, 1912 he was united in marriage to Hedwig ("Hattie") Kroneman by the Rev. G.A. Bischoff. They made their home on the farm that his father settled after the Civil War. In 1949 Otto and his wife retired and moved to St. Ansgar.
They had no children of their own, but provided a home for three young children from the Lutheran Children's Home in Waverly. The are: Mrs. Eddie (Audrey) Clinton and Mrs. Kenneth (Frances) Buenneke of Dallas, Texas area, and Johnny Miller of Minneapolis.
Mr. Steinberg was always interested in music and served as organist at St. John's church for more than 20 years. He played in the St. Ansgar Municipal band for a number of years. He and his wife moved to the Good Samaritan Center in April 1972.
He is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, and six brothers.
Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery with Rev. Jacobs in charge of the committal services.
