Funeral services for Roland Eske, 86, of St. Ansgar, who died Thursday, October 8, 1998 at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, were held October 10, 1998 at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Rose Marie Nack officiating.

Roland was born March 11, 1912 in Rock Township in Mitchell County to Wilhelm and Augusta (Wilde) Eske. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School. He married Margaret Bowen April 4, 1937 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Township. He worked assessing property for Mitchell County Assessor for many years. He served on county school board and held various church offices at St. John's Lutheran Church. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed his grandchildren. His hobbies in later years included gardening, especially roses.

Roland is survived by his wife, Margaret of St. Ansgar; four daughters, Phyllis and husband Jerry Knight, Anchorage, Alaska; Clarice Earles of Rochester, Minnesota; Charlotte and husband Steve Billings of Rochester, Minnesota; Marilyn and husband Dennis Stelter of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Laura Kuntz of Grafton.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister and one son-in-law, Richard Earles.

Burial was in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Rock Township.

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA — Roland Eske, 86, of St. Ansgar, died Thursday (Oct. 8, 1998) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Rose Marie Nack officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, in Rock Township.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School St., St. Ansgar.

Roland Eske was born March 11, 1912, in Rock Township in Mitchell County, Iowa to Wilhelm and Augusta (Wilde) Eske. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School.
