Agnes Elenea DeMaris, 97, of Riceville, Iowa passed away at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2008 in the Riceville Rest Home where she resided for ten years. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School St. in St. Ansgar with Rev. Michael Parris of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Riceville officiating. Burial was in First Lutheran Cemetery.
Agnes was born on a farm east of St. Ansgar, Iowa on September 1, 1910, the daughter of Carl Julius and Martha Maria Ringhand Johnson. Agnes lived her entire life in the Northern Iowa/Southern Minnesota area. Employed at the Bolan Store, Mercy Hospital in Mason City and was a mid-wife, assisting in the delivery of nineteen babies. She married Harold C. DeMaris in Marshalltown, Iowa on March 2, 1926 and they lived in Bolan, Iowa most of their married life. She was a long time, active member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Kensett, Iowa. Agnes loved God, her family, gardening, flowers and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents; five brothers; five sisters; and her son-in-law, Harold Bauer.
Agnes is survived by daughters, Clarice Bauer of Riceville; Dorothy (John) Engelby of Belvidere, Il; and son Tom (Darlene) Beck of Ankeny, Iowa; five grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildrn; and many, many great-great-grandchildren.
