Cora Ostenson

Funeral services for Cora Louise Ostenson, 99, who died Sunday August 1, 1993, were held Tuesday, August 3 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home here with Reverend Robert Porisch officiating.

Cora Louise Ostenson was born August 16, 1893, the fifth child of John and Amelia Ostenson in Nevada Township near Lyle, Minnesota.

She was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church as was confirmed in May, 1908. She was educated in rural Pinehurst class of 1911 and became a teacher in several schools and often went to sessions of college summer school at Winona, Austin and Cedar Falls. She last taught several years at Otranto, following World War II.

She always enjoyed music and sang in church choirs and small groups and gave many piano lessons and accompanied a lot of small groups at church.

She, with her family, transferred to Lyle Lutheran Church until she and her sisters moved to St. Ansgar where they transferred to First Lutheran Church where her membership remains. In younger years she taught Sunday School and was in women’s groups. She loved art of all kinds. She became very professional at painting. Many family members enjoyed samples of her work. She painted a picture of the Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church. which still hangs in the fellowship hall.

She was called upon frequently to assist with ill and elderly family members and she accepted this job willingly. She entered the Good Samaritan Center December 1, 19__,** remaining until her death.

Cora was preceded in death parents, her brother, Alfred, sister Alma Thompson, Minnie and Elsie Ostenson, Lillian Pederson and Esther Hammond.

She is survived by five nieces and one nephew.

Burial was in the Six Mile Grove Cemetery, Lyle, Minnesota.
