Funeral services for George N. Colbertson, 96, of Albert Lea, Minn. and formerly of St. Ansgar, who died December 20 at Naeve hospital in Albert Lea, were held December 22 at First Lutheran church here with the Rev. Stephen Engelstad officiating.
George Nicoli Colbertson, the son of an 1854 St. Ansgar pioneer, was born in St. Ansgar December 19, 1877, the son of Narve and Gertrude (Colbjornson) Colbertson. His father died in 1888, and his mother in 1920.
He was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran church, St. Ansgar, by the Rev. Johan Olsen, and remained a member of this church all his life. He married Anna Culmsee February 4, 1898. Five children were born to them, three of whom died in infancy.
Mr. Colbertson operated his Forestview Plant Garden here for 25 years. He was also custodian and sexton of the First Lutheran church and cemetery for many years. His wife, Anna, died January 27, 1939. A daughter, Mrs. Lauritz (Grace) Hansen, died August 29. 1960.
Mr. Colbertson married Sophie Christensen September 4, 1940, and they made their home near Albert Lea until 1950. They sold their Itasca Rock Garden near Albert Lea in 1950 and moved to Albert Lea. In 1965 they had the privilege of celebrating their second silver wedding anniversary. Sophie Colbertson died May 10, 1971.
Mr. Colbertson is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Emil (Frankie) Freiheit; 10 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; also nieces and nephews. He was the youngest and last of a family of 14 children.
Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Engelstad in charge of the committal services.
