Larry, the son of Hans and Augusta Wohlert Christiansen, was born July 15, 1915, on the family farm in Mitchell County. He was baptized June 16, 1918, and confirmed his Lutheran faith June 8, 1930, at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Meroa. He received his education in West Cedar rural school and graduated from Osage High School in the class of 1932. After graduation he worked for area farmers until starting farming for himself. As a young man he enjoyed playing ball with the Cedar Pirates and bowling.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served for three years. He enjoyed being a member of the Great Lakes Naval Choir.

While in the Navy, Larry married Frances Hofler of Nora Springs on June 27, 1944, in Osage.

Larry served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher at Rock Creek Lutheran Church for many years.

He was a member of the St. Ansgar Lions Club for 30 years. While in the Lions Club, he received many distinguished awards including District Governor of 9X2 area in 1980-81 and the Melvin Jones award.

Larry served on the St. Ansgar Mutual Insurance Company for 28 years serving as president for 16 years. He was on the Mitchell County Planning and Zoning board and many other county committees.

After retiring from farming due to rheumatoid arthritis, he moved to St. Ansgar and was employed by the Iowa Crop and Livestock Reporting Service for 12 years. During that time Larry pursued his hobby of woodworking.

His family was his love. He made four trips to Germany with his wife to visit relatives.

Those thankful for having shared Larry's life include his loving wife, Frances, of St. Ansgar; two daughters, Janice Stanco and her husband, Richard, of Brookfield, Conn., and Shirley Fossey of Waterloo; his grandchildren, Todd Fossey of North Hollywood, Calif., Benjamin Fossey of Chicago, Ill., and Timothy Fossey of St. Ambrose University, Davenport, Steven Stanco and his wife, Barbara, of Danbury, Conn., and Suzanne Stanco, Danbury, Conn.; and one great-granddaughter, Robyn Stanco, Danbury, Conn. He is also survived by two brothers, John of Osage and Glen of Nora Springs and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Alvin, Carl and Herbert.

The family suggests memorial donations be sent to the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, 701 E. Fourth St., St. Ansgar or the St. Ansgar Rescue Squad.
