Funeral Services Held April 3 For Carl B. Kittleson At First Lutheran Church
Funeral services for Carl B. Kittleson, 86, of St. Ansgar, who died Friday March 30 (1990) at the Good Samaritan Center, were held Tuesday, April 3 at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Reverend Robert Porisch officiating.
Carl Bernard Kittleson was born August 17, 1903 on the Kittleson farm to Charles Edward Kittleson and Amelia Johnson Kittleson. He was baptized at First Lutheran Church October 4, 1903 and confirmed there March 2, 1919 by Reverend M.E. Waldeland. He attended elementary and hgh school at St. Ansgar until the sudden death of his father in 1921. At this time Carl and his brother began raising onions on a very small scale to help support their mother and two younger sisters. As time passed they were able to purchase more land and expand their truck farming venture to a business that is currently being operated by two of Carl’s sons.
Carl was married to Lola Dieterich on January 24, 1943 at the parental Carl Dieterich home. They lived in St. Ansgar until 1960 when they moved to the Kittleson farm. Upon full retirement they purchased a home in St. Ansgar and moved in October 1988.
Carl was athletically active in high school participating in football and baseball. As he grew older he remained active and best remembered by his family for learning to water ski in his late fifties and continuing the sport until in his late seventies.
He took great pride in his retirement years in maintaining well groomed flower beds and especially enjoyed seeing several hundred tulips in bloom. He was a trustee for a few years at First Lutheran Church and served as a member of the St. Ansgar School Board.
He is survived by his wife, Lola, five children, Charles and wife, Karen and children, Shawn, Pamela and Rodney, St. Ansgar; Kermit and wife, Susan and children, Ryan, Robert, Scott and Rebecca of Fertile; Karla Anderson and husband, Terry and sons, Erick and Kyle of Iowa City; Mary and husband Laird and daughters, Leah, Michal, and Kaitlin of Mason City; John and wife Carmen and son, Jacob of St. Ansgar; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Haugen of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Mrs. Laura Lund of Sunlakes, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Julius.
Burial was in First Lutheran Cemetery.
