GERHARD BAKKUM FOUND DEAD ON SIDEWALK AT OSAGE SUNDAY MORNING
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage, for Gerhard Bakkum, 30 year old son of Mrs. Julia Bakkum of Mitchell. The Rev. T.P. Solem was in charge of the obsequies, and burial was in the family lot at the First Lutheran cemetery, St. Ansgar.
Mr. Bakkum was found dead on the west side of the Lashbrook Drug store, Osage, early Sunday morning. He had suffered a broken neck and skull fracture, and Coroner G.E. Krepelka said he apparently fell from a 17 1/2 foot balcony of the building. Besides the skull fracture and broken neck the victim also received a broken leg.
Krepelka reported that the body was found beneath the steps leading to a small apartment above the building. Bakkum had been working in Charles City.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Julia Bakkum, Mitchell, three brothers, John of Osage, Ben of Mitchell and Corporal Glen Bakkum somewhere in England, also two sisters, Mrs. Nels Boa of Mitchell and Mrs. Edwin Griga of Rockford.
The coroner's inquest is to be held either today or tomorrow. The case is being thoroughly investigated.
