Farm Child Fatally Burned at Home Near St. Ansgar

THINK SHE MAY HAVE HAD A MATCH NEAR KEROSENE

Judith Hansen, 4, Victim, Survived by Parents and Two Brothers.

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA – Judith, four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Axel Hansen, who live on a farm a mile east of St. Ansgar, died Friday in Nissen Hospial at Osage from burns received the night before when a can containing kerosene ignited.

Particulars of the accident are uncertain as the child was playing on the porch alone, but it is believed Judith may have lighted a match that caused an explosion. Two-thirds of the child’s body was burned.

Surviving besides the parents are two brothers, Axel Jr., age 11 and Gerald Lee, age two. The child was born at St. Ansgar and had lived here all her life. The mother is the former Mary Mostek of Mitchell.

Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Monday at the home. Reverend O. A. Langehough of St. Ansgar officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.
