Death of an Early Settler

Dorothea Elizabeth Weinrebe was born in Erida, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, Apr. 25, 1813.

She was married to Herman Lesch in 1835 and in 1848 they emigrated to the United States where they first settled in Cook County, Illinois.

They remained there until 1854, when in the spring of the year they came to Mitchell Co. and settled in the old homestead in Cedar Township, where she lived until her death on April 27, 1899.

She was the mother of five children, three of whom are still living and mourn her loss. One son gave his life in the service of his county during the Civil War.

Many who early came to this country have -- to remember her kindness and hospitality, and the large number of friends and neighbors who gathered to show the last sad rights of respect, testify to her nobleness of character and life.

The funeral services, conducted by Rev. Mr. Everton, were held at the old homestead where her son, Henry Lesch, and his family now reside. She had lived to a good old age and was ready and willing to leave this life, having a full trust in the All-Father that all would be well with her and her loved ones.
