Syver K. Klemesrud, 1873-1943

#1:

Syver K. Klemesrud was born to Knud and Liv Klemesrud on May 31, 1873 on the Klemesrud homestead in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. He had spent his entire life in Mitchell County, living at the time of his death on the same farm on which he was born.

He had been a life-long member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church of Mitchell County. Here he was baptized, confirmed and married. Here he brought his own family to receive Christian instruction. These last years he has served as a member of the Board of Deacons and had been treasurer of the cemetery and memorial funds.

On September 21, 1898, he was married to Ella Shoger by the Rev. Johan Olson. To this union were born four sons: Clifford, who passed away in infancy; Kinley, of the Rock Creek community; Ellsworth, serving in the armed forces, stationed at Denver, CO; and Stanley, at home.

Besides his parents, five brothers have preceded him in death. Two died in early childhood, Martin in 1930, Harald in 1935, and Herman in 1940.

Survivors include his wife, three sons, two granddaughters, a sister, Mrs. Carrie Carlson, of Osage, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Klemesrud had been in fairly good health up until a year and a half ago. Since that time he had been in failing health. About nine weeks ago, he became seriously ill and was taken to a hospital in Mason City for treatment. A week and a half ago, he became veryill and grew steadily worse until he slept peacefully away Christmas afternoon at the age of 70 years, 6 months, and 25 days. The cause of death was chronic heart disease.

Funeral services were held at the Rock Creek Lutheran church on Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. C. Blaine Gunderson.

Burial was in the Rock Creek cemetery.
