Vera Halfman Walsh

Vera Mae Halfman Walsh, age 74, of Osage, ended her earthly journey on Monday, November 23, 2009, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit, surrounded by her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Rev. John Moser officiating. There will be rosary at 10:00 a.m. at the church before the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Sunny Brae Golf and Country Club, 3419 Golf Course Road, Osage, Iowa.

The body will lie in state from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage where relatives and friends may call to pay their respects.

Vera was born June 18, 1935, in Stacyville, Iowa, the daughter of George and Helen (Hartogh) Halfman. She attended Visitation High School. On May 24, 1955, she married Ivan Walsh at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. Vera was employed by Osage Community Schools as a cook for 26 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Guild. Vera was a faith-filled woman with many interests, including cooking, baking, bible study, theater musicals, loving babies, and spending time with friends, family, the camping crew, and the birthday group for over 40 years. She enjoyed playing dominoes, reading, shopping, and "stitch 'n bitch". Vera lived life to the fullest, especially these last seven months with the diagnosis of acute myelogenous leukemia.

Vera is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Mark) Schallock of Chanhassen, Minnesota, and their children, Ryan, Keely, and Allison; her son, Chuck (favored dog, Packer) Walsh of Osage; her daughter, Peggy (Doug) Ledel of Savage, Minnesota, and their daughter, Kenzie; her son, Dave (Jana) Walsh of Osage, and their children, Caden and Jadee Mae; her son, Don (Carol) Walsh of Cedar Falls, and their children, Matt and Megan; brothers and sisters, Irma Hamm of Charles City, Theresa Minard of La Porte City, Jim (Jan) Halfman of Byron, Minnesota, Kathy (Denny) Borchardt of Mason City; and brother-in-law, Leonard F. Walsh of St. Paul, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ivan Walsh in 1982; and a sister, Mary Ann Popp.
