OBITUARY: Harry "Alfred" Halvorson, 1916-1981

Alfred Halvorson Funeral Held
Saturday, January 2

Funeral services for Alfred Halvorson, 65, who died at his home in Plainview, Minn. December 30, were held January 2 at the Immanuel Lutheran church in Plainview with the Rev. Gerald Peterson officiating.

Harry Alfred Halvorson, son of George and Lena Halvorson, was born April 10, 1916 in St. Ansgar. He graduated from St. Ansgar high school in 1934. He entered military service in 1941 and served at sea aboard the USS San Diego throughout World War II.

He married Dorothy Gilchrist December 24, 1943 in Los Angeles, Calif. The couple became residents of Plainview, Minn. in 1946 where he joined the Case Implement Co. In 1951 Mr. Halvorson became an employee of the First National bank of Plainview, retiring in June of 1981 as vice president.

At the time of his death he was president of the Plainview Low Cost Housing Development Program and was finance officer of the Plainview American Legion. He was also a member of the Plainview VFW Post.

Mr. Halvorson is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a brother, Avery of St. Ansgar; two sisters, Mrs. Lenore Grell of Mason City and Mrs. Lloyd (Ruth) Kroneman of St. Ansgar.

Burial was in Greenwood cemetery, Plainview, with Rev. Peterson in charge of the committal services. Graveside military honors were accorded by the Plainview American Legion Post.
