OBITUARY: Lucille (Apel) Schmidt, 1905-1990

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Eden Presbyterian Church, north of Rudd, for Lucille Schmidt, 84, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Nora Springs, who died Saturday (March 10, 1990) at a Mesa, Arizona hospital.

The Rev. John Bates and the Rev. Robert Peters will officiate. Burial will be in the Eden Presbyterian cemetery, north of Rudd. Visitation will be from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Champion Funeral Home, Osage.

Mrs. Schmidt was born November 10, 1905, in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, to Conrad and Sophie (Buckman) Apel. She graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1924 and attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. She worked at banks in both Rudd and Nora Springs.

On November 1, 1929, she married Conrad Eugene Schmidt at Nora Springs. They farmed near Floyd until 1947. They then moved to rural Nora Springs where they farmed until 1968, when they moved to Mesa, Ariz. Mr. Schmidt died in 1973.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. William (Mildred) Bowers, Peoria, Illinois, and Connie Schmidt, Mesa, Arizona; one son, Richard, Lodi, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Hazel Brandau, Osage.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers.
