MASON CITY, IOWA - Shirley M. Vikturek, 88, died Monday, September 24, 2007 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday September 27, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with the Reverend Jim Magelssen officiating. There will be no visitation.

A private family graveside service will be held on Thursday at the Grafton Cemetery in Grafton.

Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Shirley was born May 5, 1919, in rural Grafton, the daughter of Herbert and Birdie (Paulson) Huebner. She attended Plymouth schools and graduated from Osage High School. She received her teaching certificate from Luther College in Decorah and returned to the Grafton area where she taught in country schools for nine years.

She was married to Everett H. Vikturek on August 11, 1942, in Santa Monica, California, where Everett was stationed while in the service. Everett and Shirley returned to the Grafton area and continued farming until 1961 when the family moved to Mason City. Shirley was employed at Metal Craft for 16 years until her retirement in 1984.

Shirley was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school at Trinity Lutheran Church and First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar for a combined 30 years.

She is survived by her son, David and his wife, Denise Virturek, of Mason City; grandchildren, Aubrie and Lauren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, in 2005; parents; one sister, Harlys Field; and one brother, Glenn Huebner.

Arrangements are with Major Erickson Funeral Home.
