Funeral services were held on Monday, October 1 at First Lutheran Church here for Miss Selma B. Thorson. The Rev. LaVern Hanson, of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City was in charge of the service. Burial was in First Lutheran Cemetery.

Selma B. Thorson, daughter of Thor K. and Carrie Tuff Thorson, was born January 1, 1895 in Newburg Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. Selma was baptized by Pastor J. Olson and confirmed by Pastor M. E. Waldeland in First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, Iowa, where she remained a life long member. The Thorson family moved to Otranto Township in 1897 and she attended a rural school which was then located just a mile south of Otranto. She also attended the Cedar Valley Seminary, Osage, Iowa, for a period of time.

Miss Thorson remained at home helping to care for her parents. At various time she was employed as a waitress at Eggleston's Candy Kitchen, St. Ansgar and in several coffee shops in Mason City. Following the death of her brother, Clarence, in 1954, she again moved to Mason City and worked for a while at the Cerro Gordo Hotel Coffee Shop and later on lived in the homes of several elderly ladies as a companion to them.

She died unexpectedly, Friday, September 28, at the home of Mrs. Alma Sanders, at Northwood. Selma was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Clarence, and two sisters, Cornelia and Mrs. Luella Erickson, Pulaski, Wisconsin, and four nephews. Clarence Erickson, Green Bay, Wisonsin, Leonard Erickson, Wild Ross, Wisconsin, Homer Erickson, Viscosa, Brazil, South America and Luther Erickson, Grinnell, Iowa Other survivors include a number of cousins and many friends.

Attending the services from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Erickson, Pulaski, Wisconsin; Dr. and Mrs. Luther Erickson and daughter of Grinnell, Iowa and Mr. Clarence Erickson of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Others in attendance were relatives and friends from the area.
