Funeral services for William "Bill" Stout, age 79, will be held at 10:30 am Thursday at Zion United Church of Christ, Lowden, Iowa. Chapman Funeral Home, Clarence, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements. Burial with graveside military rites will be Friday at 11 am at Liberty Cemetery, Little Cedar, Iowa.
William died Sunday at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport, Iowa.
William Stout was born April 22, 1924 in Little Cedar, Iowa. He was the son of William and Velma Stout. He married Florence Weber on July 1, 1948 at the Little Cedar Methodist Church. He served as President of the American Trust and Savings Bank, Lowden, Iowa, starting March 10, 1967. He was past president of the Scott and Cedar County Bankers Association, Lowden Family Medical Clinic, Lowden Development Corp.
William served on various boards including the Little Home Day Care Center and was a charter member of the Lowden Lion's Club. He was a 50-year member of the Lowden American Legion Post #366. During World War II he served in the European Theater with the 30th "Old Hickory" Infantry Division as a sergeant and was awarded the purple heart and bronze star during the "Battle of the Bulge."
He was a graduate of Upper Iowa University and was a graduate of the School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin and did his graduate work at the University of Iowa.
William was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, Lowden, Iowa.
Preceding William in death were his parents.
He is survived by his wife Florence, one son Kent and daughter-in-law Pam of Lowden, a daughter Karen and son-in-law Brett Baldwin of Eldridge, two granddaughters and a sister Delia and her husband Lee Julius of Mason City.
Memorials may be made to the Zion United Church of Christ, Lowden, Iowa.
