FAGRE, FAGERBOKKEN

Mrs. Ingeborg Anna Fagre was born in Nordland, Norway on April 18, 1842. She came to America in 1866 and located in the Rock Creek community, Mitchell County, Iowa. During her first year in this community, she was employed as a domestic in different places.

In 1868 she entered into matrimony with Nels P. Fagerbokken. Immediately after their marriage they purchased a piece of land in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, but until a home was built on this land, Johannes N. Johnson and Ole Moe very kindly opened their homes to them.

In her first marriage two children were born, namely: Theodore, of Blooming Prairie, MN, and Nicolai, of this community. Her first husband died about four years after their marriage. About three years after his death she married Hans P. Fagerbakken, a brother of her first husband. He preceded her in death in 1885.

In her second marriage four children were born. Only one of these children, Christian Fagre, of Finlayson, MN, survives. She later moved with the family to Blooming Prairie, MN, and then to York, ND.

Since returning to Iowa her time has been divided between the homes of her children. She also spent shorter periods of tome in the home of Mrs. Alfred Haugen, who the departed cared for from childhood until she became of age.

With the exception of the last two weeks, the last eight years of the departed's life were spent the home of her son, Nicholai Peterson, of this community. In all the homes where she spent her declining years, kind hands have given her the best of care. May our good Lord graciously reward all those who also have been kind to this departed mother!

The only near relatives surviving besides the above-mentioned children are twelve grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Hanna Anderson, of Estherville, Iowa. Mrs. Fagre had enjoyed good health all her life and had been an exceptionally strong and industrious woman. She had been brought up in the Lutheran church and was always an exemplary member of the local congregation and an active charter member of the Ladies’ Aid society. The first meeting of this society was held in her home.

But the most comforting and blessed thought in connection with the departed mother is the belief and hope that she was a true Christian woman, a good mother, devoted to her home, family, and church, and always unselfishly responsive to the calls for help in her neighborhood.

She died in the Lord, as we hope, in the home of her son, Theodore Fagre, at Blooming Prairie, MN on May 13, 1926. The cause of her death was old age with the usual infirmities.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. O.C. Myhre in the Rock Creek Lutheran church, May 16th, at 1 p.m. Interment was made in the Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery.
