Funeral services for Merle Edward Decker, 64, who died January 18 at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital were held Saturday, January 22 at the St. Ansgar Baptist church with the Rev. Howard Reed officiating.

Merle Edward Decker was born May 12, 1912 at Kendelville. He farmed with his brother before being inducted into the Army in 1942. He spent most of his life in the McIntire area, moving to Riceville in 1975. Ill health made it necessary to take residence at the Riceville Rest Home for the last few months.

Merle received Christ as his Savior in 1953. He served as deacon of the Faith Baptist Church, McIntire, until this church united with others to form the Faith Baptist church of Cresco. He also served on the board for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Francis (Opal) Jensen of Lime Springs and Mrs. Dale (Garnet) Duryee, McIntire; several nieces and nephews.

(St. Ansgar Enterprise, St. Ansgar, Iowa; Jan. 27, 1977)
