Dorothy was united in marriage on March 8, 1949, in Rochester, Minnesota, to Raymond Lewis Rapp. Three children were born to this union.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Raymond on January 3, 2003; and by a brother Ronald.

Her survivors include two sons Tim and his wife Lynn Sonneman of Seattle, Washington; Ted and his wife Sarah of Ankeny; and a daughter Polly Miller and her husband Frank of Forest City. She was also the proud and loving stepmother of Paul Rapp of Richmond, Missouri, and Janine Bedwell and her husand Cliff. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a brother John "Jack" Robinson of Lime Springs and a sister Betty (Harold) Munkel of Lime Springs.
