Funeral services held at First Lutheran Church 3/23/79
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Hendrickson, 80, of St. Ansgar, who died March 20 at the Osage Nursing Home, were held March 23 at First Lutheran church here with the Rev. Stephen Engelstad officiating.
Ruth (Engebretson) Hendrickson, daughter of Simon and Bertha Engebretson, was born January 28, 1899 in Esofea, Wisconsin. She was baptized in the Bethel Lutheran church in Esofea March 3, 1899, and confirmed at the Viroqua Lutheran church by the Rev. A. Hofstad October 10, 1914. She was graduated from Viroqua highschool in 1916. That fall she enrolled at St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, and received her BA degree in 1920. The next four years she taught in the Minnesota school system.
August 14, 1924 she married Morris B. Hendrickson of St. Ansgar. Three children were born to them.
In 1928 they moved to St. Ansgar and took over the management of the home farm, which time she became a member of the First Lutheran church. In 1956 they moved to their home in St. Ansgar where Mr. Hendrickson died June 24, 1973.
Mrs. Hendrickson was very active in the women's organizations of her church and in her younger days served in various offices.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris, her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Sam (Jean) Edgar of St. Louis, Mo.; two sons, Don Hendrickson of St. Ansgar and David Hendrickson of Keokuk; also 11 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Yancie Miller of Oconomowac, Wis., Miss Helen Engebretson of Beloit, Wis. And Mrs. Nora Waaler of Oslo, Norway.
Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Engelstad in charge of committal services.
