Irene May Fossey

Funeral services for Irene M. Fossey, 66, who died at the Good Samaritan Center September 19, were held September 22 at First Lutheran Church here with the Rev. Stephen Engelstad officiating.

Irene May Fossey, daughter of Otto and Anna (Hansen) Fossey, was born May 15, 1912 in Rhame, North Dakota, where she was baptized by the Rev. M.C. Holseth. She moved to this vicinity in 1917, and was later confirmed at the Mona Lutheran church by the Rev. O.M. Langehough.

Miss Fossey was gradutated from Osage High School and Hamilton Business College in Mason City. She was employed by the Bankers Life Insurance Co. for 30 years, then worked for Beneficial Standard Insurance Company in Los Angeles, California, where she lived until stricken with a serious illness. She has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center here the past two years.

Miss Fossey was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and was very active in many types of church work. She is survived by her step mother, Mrs. Esther Fossey; a sister, Mrs. Vernon Smesrud and a brother, Oliver Fossey, all of St. Ansgar; a sister, Mrs. Jack Griffith of Harrisburg, Pa.; 10 nieces and nephews; and 19 great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, Olive, and a three year old brother, Kenneth.

Burial was in First Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Engelstad in charge of committal services.
