Death of Mr. Albin Peshak
This community was startled Thursday morning of the last week by the announcement that Albin Peshak was dead; that he had expired the evening before at Ames, this State, where he was attending school. As no one here had been apprised of his illness the announcement of his death naturally caused a feeling of sadness and sympathy among our people. Upon inquiry we learned that Mr. J. F. Peshak had received a telegram the day before saying that his son was sick and requesting the presence of members of the family. In response to this telegram Mrs. Peshak departed for Ames Wednesday afternoon, but did not arrive there in time to see her son alive.
The deceased was taken sick one week before the day of his death, but was laboring under the belief that he was coming down with the measles. On Monday a change in his condition manifested itself and the attending physicians pronounced the disease what is known as double pneumonia. Mr. Peshak failed gradually until 4 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, when he passed away without a struggle. The remains arrived here Friday afternoon in charge of Messrs. Hitchcock and Eustice, two college students, and Mrs. J. F. Peshak.
Albin Peshak was born in Windsor, Wisconsin on Feburary 17, 1865, consequently was 23 years of age on his last birthday. He was a young man of good habits, steady, industrious, energetic, and devoted all the time possible to his studies. Among his associates he was a favorite and everyone regarded him as an exemplary young man who would some day make his mark in the world.
One year ago he decided to take a course of studies at our State Agricultural College. He had attended the school one year and had just entered upon the second when he contracted the fatal disease which run to such a sudden termination.
The funeral services were held at the Spring Valley School house Sunday afternoon and were attended by about four hundred persons. An able discourse was delivered by Reverend Heath, of West Mitchell, which was followed by a few remarks by Mr. Hitchcock, of Waterloo. After the services the procession, which was composed of about forty sleighs and cutters, formed and moved to our village cemetery where a large number of people had congregated to witness the last sad rites. The relatives of the deceased, and especially the grief sticken parents, have the heartfelt sympathy of the people of this community in the loss of this young man who passed from us in the flower of his youth and whose pleasant face and kindly acts will always be held in a cherished remembrance.
