OBITUARY

Stillman Clement son of Archibald T. and E. A. Clement, aged 13 years 5 months and 7 days, was drowned in the Nodaway river, near Clarinda, Page county, Iowa, June 24th, 1869.

He went to the river with a number of other boys for the purpose of bathing; getting beyond his depth, and being unable to swim, he was borne down by the current and perished. An attempt was made by one of the boys in the company to save him, but an unavailing one.

He had resided but a few months in Clarinda, and being of a modest and retiring disposition, he was not as extensively known as many boys would have been in the same length of time; but those who knew him most intimately appreciated his moral worth the most highly. He attended two Sabbath Schools in Clarinda-the United Presbyterian, in the morning and the Methodist. in the afternoon, and by his becoming deportment he won the respect and esteem of all who came in contact with him in these schools. One commendable feature was, that he always carried his own Bible with him to the Sabbath School.

This Bible he won as a prize, while a member of Mrs S. B. Chase's class in the Congregational S. S. at Osage, Iowa. So highly did this teacher appreciate his merit in securing this prize, that she had his name engraved upon it in the letters of gold, and our fond hope is that his name is" written in the Lamb's book of life"
This Bible, at his mother's request was laid upon his breat, right above the heart that loved it so well, and that will one day, we trust, "in the flesh see God".

"When Christ who is our life shall appear with him in glory"- Page County Herald.
