Winford D. “Addy” Addison
Funeral services were held in Corona, California for Winford. D. “Addy” Addison, 89, of Corona, formerly of Osage, Iowa. Burial was in Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Memorial Par, Corona.
Addison was born in Iowa in 1898 and served in the Army during World War I. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa, and a master’s degree from the University of Chicago.
He was high school principal in Osage from 1937 to 1945. He moved to Corona, California in 1945 and taught history, later was principal and director of adult education in Corona High School until his retirement in 1963.
Addison was active in his community and received many civic achievements including a charter member of Kiwanis Club, support group member for Corona Public Library’s Heritage Room, and helped with many senior citizen projects. In 1981, he was named Kiwanian of the Year for his many years of service to the Corona Kiwanis Club. He was named the Corona Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year in 1982.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Corona and the Temescal Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine, A son, Gordon of Corona; five granddaughters, six great-grandchildren and a brother, Fern of Iowa.
