OSAGE GIRL KILLED IN FIRST ATTEMPT TO OPERATE AUTO
Verna Simpson's Neck Broken When Car Overturns; 3 Others Slightly Hurt.
OSAGE, IOWA - June 14, 1926 — Miss Verna Simpson, Osage, was killed outright Saturday night when she lost control and drove into a ditch near Rudd during her first attempt to operate a motorcar.
The car overturned and her neck was broken. Three other young people in the machine escaped with minor injuries.
The girl had induced Carl Olson, owner of the machine, to give her the wheel, according to stories of the surviving members of the party. Details of the accident are not clear, but it is believed the girl became panic stricken when something went wrong.
Besides Miss Simpson and Olson, there were in the car, Charlotte J. McCullough and Knut Klemesrud who, with Olson, resides in Cedar Township.
The funeral of Miss Simpson will be conducted Tuesday morning at the Catholic Church here. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Simpson.
